Weekly Virtual Meetings and Worksheets
The How Behind The Why
As you already know, all internships have direct supervision baked into the process. This virtual internship is, of course, no different. In fact, we are going to be meeting in a technical sense just a bit more than you would meet with a supervisor at an agency given that we are not floating around a shared building.
We will have three different types of weekly meetings:
-
Strategy Sessions (15-20 minutes)
-
Supervision Sessions (1-1.5 hours)
-
MAT Clinic Shadowing (5-10 hours based on availability and interest)
15-20 Minute Strategy Sessions:
-
These are at the beginning of the week at the same time for the duration of the internship.
-
These last about 15-20 mins
-
Focus is on Goal Setting for the week
-
This will take place via Streamyard.com.
-
I will be recording these and sending them to you for your records via email.
-
Both worksheets are to be emailed to me prior to this Meeting.
-
Worksheets are included in .pdf form at the bottom of this page.
1-1.5-Hour Weekly Supervision: Typically, supervisors meet with you for around an hour per week as required by the state and everyone else involved in designing your internship experience. This is the second type of meeting we will have.
-
This is the meat, so to speak, of our virtual internship supervision.
-
It is once per week and will take place via Streamyard.com.
-
I will be recording these and sending them to you for your records via email.
-
We will review the books, address any clinical challenges or successes, mindset pieces and best practices, and generally connect on a deeper level during these meetings.
5-10 Hours MAT Clinic Shadowing:
-
This is a unique opportunity should you have an interest in seeing the only LCSW and RMA owned Medication Assisted Treatment clinic in Michigan.
-
It is optional, and if you have no interest in learning about this model of treatment, you can opt to focus entirely on private practice in your internship. You won’t hurt my feelings one way or another.
-
These are long days, but it is also a lot of down time between clients. These are not “grueling” in that sense, but they are long. These are opportunities for you to get other work done at the same time, so you get hours, experience, perspective, practice shadowing and an inside look at an industry that likely few of your professors even have any experience with.
-
You can choose to attend for whatever length of time you wish. However, if you choose a short period of time and are consistent with that time, you will only get to shadow a few, select patients since the patients' appointments are usually at the same time every 4 weeks.
-
The longer you attend, the more diversity you see in this shadowing and the more you get to see the various aspects of managing this particular and somewhat unique type of use disorder. I have been doing this work for the past 12 years, so there's not a lot I have not seen.
-
This is also a great opportunity to see scope of practice and a multi-disciplinary approach in action. As MSW's, we are limited in our scope compared to NP's, PA's, DO's and MD's, so this is a great space to get to know where the scopes of practice begin and end and to see how coordination of care happens.
-
Clinics are held every other Wednesday and are kept at a consistent 28 days apart for the patients.
-
Occasionally, our provider will need to move an appointment around to another day of the week, and I will let you know with as much notice as possible.

As promised, below are the forms that we will be using. They are intended to get you in the practice of weekly goal-setting and self-assessment.
These are emailed to adam@lifesworkclinic.com preferably the day before our regularly scheduled Weekly Strategy Sessions.

If you prefer a Word Doc format, just ask me, and I will email them to you.
